Startup Awards.SK is looking for a web designer

Why should I be interested?

We want the designer to be someone who cares for startups and who wants to be a part of this year’s Startup Awards.SK. Author of the selected design will get:

VIP access to Startup Awards.SK 2012 final: a seat at the final event and free beers at the after-party.
Entry to Startup Academy.SK 2012 events: We are planning a couple of educational events for startupers throughout the year. Some of them will be invite-only for selected applicants.
Exposure through link to your portfolio on the website: Make your signature part of the design and link it to your portfolio. We’ll do our best to bring 5.000+ unique visitors and 25.000+ pageviews in the month around the event and make your effort count.

Requirements?

As a web designer, you know the best what’s hot and what’s not. We want a design that’s modern, playful, bold, exciting, fresh and eye-pleasing. At the same time, it should be easy to navigate and make sense. We want an artwork with a great UX and a mobile version that will make people go WOW! Just let the artist in you go wild and show off!

The design should reflect the following:

there should be a place allocated for partners’ logos – visible in the main viewport of the front page and on a prominent place on the subpages
there should be a place allocated for twitter feed aggregator on the main page
the main page should provide room for a nice wide-angle interchangeable banner
we will need place for “flags” for language switching as well as links to social media and RSS

Website should contain following:

dedicated blog section
news section on the front page
general information about the event and its subparts and events
information about the application process for startups & possibility to submit the application
information about applicating startups, the partners and the jury
a contact page

The way you will manage to put this together is up to your imagination.

Submission package

For consideration of your submission, a simple flat export of the design (jpg/png) – one for desktop version and one for the mobile version – will suffice. In case your design is selected, we will need the layered psd file or a suitable alternative.

What are the deadlines?

We would like to have the website up and running by the mid-April. Therefore, we have set 31.3.2012 as the deadline for submissions. The winning design will be announced no later than 4.4.2011.

AIESEC Conference Symposium – Startup Slovakia

There have been a plenty of events for start-ups, with start-ups and about start-ups in Slovakia in the past months. If you are interested in this kind of events and still have no plans for 3rd and 4th of February 2012, you should consider taking part at AIESEC Symposium which will take place at CVTI in Bratislava.

This conference has been designed primarily for students who have their own businesses, or consider the option of becoming their own bosses instead of choosing the path of employees.

You will have the chance to meet Ivan Stefunko from Neulogy, Ondrej Bartos from Credo Ventures, Adam Somlai-Fischer from Prezi and many more in the role of speakers. If you want to experience two days full of motivation and networking, and want to take something new in the process, don’t hesitate. The deadline for signing up is 26.1.

First two start-ups have flown to The Valley!

Synapso

It focuses on the ease of use and accessibility from mobile devices (responsive design). The way how Synapso approaches layout and content creation is extremely interesting. Make your own judgment:

The second project we would like to introduce is Thapir. Thapir is mobile app solution for small and medium businesses to join m-commerce. Merchants upload their special offer to application following various pre-set promo vouchers. It offers analytical output about number of street crossing users, what they click and how they convert.
To mobile app for end-users offers answers for local activity mobile search with tap to buy system issuing bar code vouchers easily applicable in local businesses. This happens in an attractive environment including features as augumented reality, map integration and cash-less payments.

TrashOut

Among the start-ups that have applied but didn’t make it to the finals are a couple of projects that we consider interesting and worth speaking about. Every week, we will present one such start-up. The first one is TrashOut.

TrashOut is attempting to solve the problem of illegal dumps by utilizing a web application and a mobile app to turn the process of discovering, reporting and cleaning them into a game.

The finals are over. The jury has admitted, that it was not easy to make the decision. Finally, they have managed to pick four start-ups that will fly to Silicon Valley in the first and second quarter of 2012. These are:
